Visiting Norrtälje

Every time we’re on Summer Holidays on Blidö, we visit the closest town, Norrtälje, a few times. This year is no exception. And as tradition has it, we usually get pretty nice weather when visiting Norrtälje. Apart from eating some serious ice cream, we also managed to find new shoes for Filip, and look at some computer games for Alexander.

Waterfun

Today was the first day with just us and Dad these Summer Holidays; needless to say we spent a lot of time down by the water. Swimming, jumping, filming (with the GoPro), and having a blast in general.

There’s a pile of rocks some 50-75m out in the water that Alexander wants to swim out to. Dad told him it was OK only if we did some practice runs in more shallow water. So Alexander practiced like a madman (!); he did eleven laps of 25m for a total of 275m. Not bad at all.

Filip continued to improve on his swimming, both on and below the surface. We spent a total of four hours by the water. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it, right? :-)

Two-week summary of bliss

Two weeks of pure joy in the archipelago with Dad has come to pass. It can be summarized with the following words: sun, water, BBQ, ice cream, laughter, fun, repeat! We’ve been on boat rides, we’ve been swimming and playing in the water, we’ve even managed a trip to Norrtälje.

Now we’re looking forward to another four weeks of holidays on Blidö, and Mom is going to be here too!

Filip the diver

The Diver

From the Filip goes swimming development department, we can now report that the soon-to-be 7-year old is swimming (albeit under water), snorkling, and making skilled jumps into the water from the docks.

Glorious summer holidays

Trying to sum up these summer holidays in a reasonable amount of space will be very hard :-) In short, they’ve been fantastic! Every chance we got, we went out with Katti, our new boat. We went to visit "Saltkråkan" (recorded on the islands of Norröra and Söderöra in the Stockholm archipelago), we went to a real cirkus, we visited Norrtälje (a nice smallish town north of Stockholm), we had some nice visitors, and I did a lot of swimming in the sea.

In addition to this, dad and I built an airplane out of left-over wood pieces, and I got to practice som soccer. I also learned how to play badminton, which was cool.

One of the coolest things was to run off the docks and jump into the water with my life jacket on! I also spent a lot of time playing my with my brother; teasing him can be quite fun, specially when my mom and dad hit the roof!

End of day care

Today, we had our end-of-day-care party where we invited all the parents for cookies and coffee.

We sang songs that we had been practicing for many weeks. Well, when it came down to it, I didn’t actually feel like standing in front of everybody and sing, but I listened.. that’s gotta count for something, right?

Among the songs I like the most is Ida’s summer tune, a song about a flea making soup ("Liten loppa kokar soppa"), and one about making mashed fruit :-)

This isn’t actually the last day of day care before the summer break, but we’re getting there!

Late summer

We went to visit aunt Mona and uncle Håkan during the summer for a great
pool party. The weather was beautiful and I just had to try the pool. As you can see, I am helping my father from drowning :-)

During summer, people here in Sweden run around like maniacs trying to catch just the slightest ray on their skin; I find it quite stressful and have taken a more relaxed approach to sun tanning.

Besides, you would not believe how hot these diapers get when I sit in the sun!

My father was given the opportunity to sample a traditional Swedish dish called Surströmming; something he had managed to stay clear of for many years. Aunt Mona would not take ‘No’ for an answer so my mother went to fetch the camera.

In this picture, he is just beginning to open the tin. The short version of the story is: my father will under no circumstances eat this dish again ever! :-)
