Schooool!

I am now officially counting down the hours and minutes until tomorrow morning, when I will be going to school for real! No more day care! Yaaay! :-) Mom and dad say I’m restless, well can you blame me?! This is going to be great. It’s a little bit scary, but so exciting!

Mom and dad keep making me read things, and I have to admit to being a bit lazy when it comes to that. Mom and I have also been doing some "tell-the-time-training".

Glorious summer holidays

Trying to sum up these summer holidays in a reasonable amount of space will be very hard :-) In short, they’ve been fantastic! Every chance we got, we went out with Katti, our new boat. We went to visit "Saltkråkan" (recorded on the islands of Norröra and Söderöra in the Stockholm archipelago), we went to a real cirkus, we visited Norrtälje (a nice smallish town north of Stockholm), we had some nice visitors, and I did a lot of swimming in the sea.

In addition to this, dad and I built an airplane out of left-over wood pieces, and I got to practice som soccer. I also learned how to play badminton, which was cool.

One of the coolest things was to run off the docks and jump into the water with my life jacket on! I also spent a lot of time playing my with my brother; teasing him can be quite fun, specially when my mom and dad hit the roof!

Farewell day care

The time has (almost) come for me to bid day care farewell. Today we had our annual spring/summer party where we sing songs, and eat a lot of cookies. It’ll be my last such party on these grounds, we’re I’ve spent countless hours running around like a mad man.

The fact that we’ll be going to Blidö for our summer holidays, and looking forward to school in the fall helps a little, but I sure will miss a lot of people.

My teeth are falling out!

Well.. they aren’t really falling out. I lost my first tooth, so it’s actually one when you count :-) It was a matter of time, and I must admit I was getting a bit anxious about it since both Alice and Viktor had lost a few teeth before me.

Now I’m one of the toothless gang!

Oh yeah, by my calculations I’ll be quite rich when all of these things have come out.. the tooth fairy is proving to be a lady of some generosity :-)

A new coach

Soccer practice is going very well. I may not quite have reached stardom yet, but I’m having a blast.

Today, the whole team (FC Kristineberg that is) was in for a surprise when it was announced that dad will be our head coach! It turns out our current coach and his wife decided to call it quits on short notice.

Dad and I get along well (most of the time) when it comes to him teaching me things, I’m sure this will work out fine.

Move on over Pelé

Today I had my first soccer (football) practice! The club is called FC Kristineberg and we practice not far from where I live. It was a lot of fun. Alex and Vincent from my day care of last year play too, as do Adrian and Viktor (both will also start school with me in the fall).

I really enjoy practicing and playing matches. I probably have a long way to go before I reach Pelé’s capacity, but I’ll get there :-)

By the way, did you know this about Pelé:

  • 1281 goals in 1363 matches – all-time world record
  • Top Brazilian goalscorer of all-time
  • IOC Athlete of the Century 1999
  • His real name is "Edson Arantes do Nascimento"

Moving into the 2nd quarter

Having gotten most of the year’s birthdays under my belt, including my own, we are now waiting with anticipation for fall to come along, when I get to start school. Mom and dad insist on telling me that I have the whole summer to look forward to as well, but.. well, frankly, I cannot wait to start school.

There are some pictures from my 2006 birthday party in the photo album. I can’t believe I’m already six years old. Mom and dad have a hard time understanding it too. Time flies when you’re having fun I always say, but it felt like just a little while ago when I got myself a baby brother, learned how to ride my bicycle, and stuff. Things are happening in the world around me, and I am taking notice. Perhaps dad should try to include some sort of summary every year of what went on. Or perhaps he’ll leave that up to me to research when get older :-) I know about the scare we had with the bird flu, and I guess it ain’t quite over just yet.

Gameboy Advance

Dad thinks it was inevitable, and I can’t but agree. Today we went to a game store in town and purchased a Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP. Along with the "console", we got Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Arcade Collection and a Nintendo Classic, Mario Brothers.

Dad figured I’d need something to get going, thus the Namco Museum. It turns out I like the Mario Brothers game the most, and am getting quite good at it.

Dad says I look like Stevie Wonder when I play the GBA; playing with my whole body. Hey, this stuff is tricky to get the hang of! :-)

While in the store, the sales clerk tried to get dad to buy the Gameboy Micro and then the Nintendo DS, but dad figured I’d be better off learning the ropes on a GBA-SP, and then by the time I’m ready to advance (uuh), something better will have been released.

Getting my hands on the GBA-SP wasn’t all that hard, but I did have to let go of my FlexiTrax to Filip :-)

I–a-m–r-e-a-d-i-n-g-!

Dad scribbled a few words on a piece of paper, along with two "soundings" (ou and uo), and sat down with me. And all of a sudden things made sense. It must have been good timing for all my previous practice to finally fall into place. I’m really reading! How cool is that?!

Combining reading and writing is also very exciting for me. I get a little bit too eager says dad, and I keep forgetting basic rules. But given some time, I’ll get the hang of this. Wow, there’s a whole new world out there!!!

I’m driving mom and dad nuts, I must spell everything now.. so when I answer dad’s question about what I want to drink, I have to sound out the word "M-I-L-K". For milk, it’s OK because it doesn’t take so long, but telling mom or dad I want spaghetti and sausage for dinner takes much longer, and gives my mother heart troubles :-)

Game Invaders

Having been less interested in playing games on the computer for the past few months, I noticed that dad was installing some stuff onto his computer I hadn’t seen before. I asked him what he was doing and he told me he was checking out some things he’d seen on HappyPenguin.org, a place with mostly free entertainment and edutainment software.

Turns out the game dad was testing was called Invasion 3D. Dad said it was styled from a game called Space Invaders he used to play as a coin-op when he was a kid (that was a long time ago I guess). He also installed some other free games and edutainment software onto my computer. Go check out Invasion 3D for yourself, right here.
