This weekend we went to Forshaga near Karlstad in Värmland. The roadtrip was brought on by our Grandma Tora’s 90th birthday! A big part of the family on Mom’s side came to honor the oldest lady of them all, as well as a somewhat younger Ronja, who celebrated her 20th birthday at the same time. It was a blast, and we got to meet a lot of people we don’t see so often.
We stayed with aunt Yvonne who lives in Forshaga as well.
You can check out photos from the party in our photo album!
On our way back from Forshaga, we stopped by one of Dad’s colleagues, Mats, who lives in Skattkärr with his family. Mats had a really cool trampoline mat (jumping mat), and we had a lot of fun with it together with Mats’ two children, H&M.
Today I wrote my first e-mail, with my very own e-mail account! Dad has begun showing me the ropes of what he calls a new world (for me). It will be an exciting fall no doubt (not just because of e-mail of course). It was very interesting, but quite a few new things to learn.
Dad also showed me some keyboard shortcuts that made navigating the web a lot faster .. we also talked a bit about programming. There are a lot of strange words that I’m not entirely sure of yet, but I’m sure it’ll all come to me in due time.
We ended our training session by a Wikipedia lookup of “lactose” and “lactose intolerance“; something we had pledged to do since we were talking about it at the breakfast table this morning. I’m not lactose intolerant, but we were discussing “sugar” in foods.
You remember how I told you I had just gotten my own fishing rod? Well, today I got my very first catch with that very same rod. Yesterday, Dad and I went to do some practice throws with it, and today I wanted to do some more of that. So Filip, Mom, and I went down to Sjöstugan (an old boat house here in Storvik). On the third throw, Filip told me I was too far into the shallow water with my throw, and I was beginning to agree when something started pulling back and forth!
After some moments of chaos and panic (Mom and Filip weren’t exactly calm), we managed to get the fish into the landing net. Unfortunately, everything including the line and lure got all tangled up in the net. Filip ran all the way back to our house to get Dad, while Mom and I carried the very lively fish – a Pike – back towards the house.
When we got to the house, Dad told us all to calm down and went about the business of first killing the Pike, and then getting it untangled from the landing net. About 10 minutes later, Dad had gutted and cleaned the fish and asked Mom to peel some potatoes!
So now I had caught my very first Pike and now I have had my very first taste of it! What I’m doing tomorrow? Do you even have to ask?

I’ve been intrigued by fish and fishing ever since I was really small. There’s just something about catching them that is so fun. Of course, when I was a wee bit smaller than now, Dad did catch a bigger one for me; unfortunately I wasn’t very comfortable with the fact that Dad had to break its neck to prepare it for eating. I’ve been a bit put off with that very concept until recently. I’ve made a new friend out here on Blidö, his name is Daniel, and we’ve been doing some fishing which is very cool.
When we went to Norrtälje, we went to Dogger (a store for boat and fishing equipment), and now I have my very own fishing rod! All I have to do now is to learn to actually like eating the fish too
After talking to Dad about it, it was decided that we were to get our very own wood carving knives! So when we went to Norrtälje today, Dad looked around the hardware store and finally found something suitable. He initially wanted the more traditional handle with protectors on both sides, but the clerk at the store said they were hard to find. It’s a lot of fun to work with wood carving, and you can make all sorts of things out of an ordinary piece of wood with just a sharp knife and some imagination.
What a day! I’m now officially seven years of age, and I feel completely exhausted already!
Today has been filled with fun and laughter, a lot of sweet stuff to eat, and many gifts.
Hyper Dash was a cool game I got from my relative Birk & Co. I also got some money from Göran’s mom and dad, a lot of new Lego to build wonderful stuff with, two Wii Games (Mario Galaxy 2 and Anubis 2) as well as my own (and first) digital camera (a Canon Ixus 110; which is a perfect fit for my rather small hands)!
I guess I should have figured out this day would be great.. I mean, how could a day that starts with cold cocoa-milk and a peanut butter sandwich become anything but a great success!?
Party on!
And this is the Daily News for my 7th birthday!
Two weeks of pure joy in the archipelago with Dad has come to pass. It can be summarized with the following words: sun, water, BBQ, ice cream, laughter, fun, repeat! We’ve been on boat rides, we’ve been swimming and playing in the water, we’ve even managed a trip to Norrtälje.
Now we’re looking forward to another four weeks of holidays on Blidö, and Mom is going to be here too!

The Diver
From the Filip goes swimming development department, we can now report that the soon-to-be 7-year old is swimming (albeit under water), snorkling, and making skilled jumps into the water from the docks.
